Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Investigate sightings
   • Sightings are reported and maintained
   • Sightings are investigated
   • Sightings are logged and communicated to relevant search and rescue authority
2. Prepare for search operations
   • Operational briefing is obtained from relevant search and rescue authority
3. Aircraft is configured and loaded, in accordance with requirements and pilot in command instructions
4. Involvement in briefings is undertaken, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
5. Incident information is used to determine personal equipment needed for search operation
6. Conduct search operations
   • Scanning distance is identified
7. Search briefing is reviewed en route to task area
8. Impediments to effective observation techniques are identified and appropriate adjustments are made
9. Observation technique is applied to ensure effective scanning of identified area of interest
10. Search equipment is operated to maximise sighting and identification effectiveness
    • Sightings are reported and maintained
11. Sightings are investigated
12. Sightings are logged and communicated to relevant search and rescue authority
13. Communicate outcome search
    • Emergency signals from target are identified and recognised
14. Communications are logged and reported to relevant search and rescue authority
